Women's Basketball
2010-11 Season Outlook
The 2010-11 season is here for the WWCC women’s basketball team. The team has gone 125-58 over the past six years and averaged over 20 wins a year in that time period. The Mustangs were the 2008-2009 AND 2009-2010 National Academic champions.
Two starters return and three other players who saw considerable action. Susan Walmsley, from Australia, started every game as a freshman and averaged 9.2 points per game. Kelsey Naylor earned a starting spot late in the season and averaged 5 points and 2 rebounds per game.
Three other players saw considerable action as freshmen as Jessa Jeppesen averaged 5.6 PPG and 4.0 RPG. Lexi Amundsen averaged 2.0 PPG and 1.7 RPG. The other returning sophomore is Chayla Jones who averaged 2.2 PPG and 2.8 RPG.
The Mustangs lost eight players last year to graduation so Coach Swartz hopes his young team will develop quickly and have a great season.
Nine freshmen will join the five sophomores as the make-up of the team changes considerably. “We think we have a good group of incoming freshmen. How they adjust to this level of play remains to be seen but they are very athletic” Coach Swartz is quoted as saying.
