2010-2011 Season Outlook
After coming off a top 20 finish at the National Championships in Des Moines, IA, where the Mustangs had four national qualifiers, the squad is excited to get back on the mat. Coach Castillo is looking to greatly improve his team’s post season performance and has brought in 21 new wrestlers for the 2010-2011 season. Only returning one national qualifier from last year’s team, the Mustangs are young and could possibly be starting at least nine freshmen this year. Along with Castillo, former WWCC wrestlers, All-American, Nick Mamalis (second year), Josh Nacey (first year) and former Mustang national qualifier and University of Wyoming standout, Cody Chipperfield (first year), have high expectations for these young me and the coaching staff hopes to bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to this young team.
125- This weight has three exciting athletes looking for the starting role. Freshman, Eddie Patino, a state placer from Morgan, UT, freshman, Greg Palmer a Regional Qualifier form Haddon Heights, NJ and three-time Wyoming State Champion Max Vichi from Big Piney, WY, look to make a name for themselves.
133- Freshman, Richard Serna a three-time Arizona state placer from Holbrook, AZ, freshman, Dillon Karjanis from Cheyenne, WY, and Rock Springs, Wyoming, freshman, Wesley Slaugh, will vie for the starting spot. Serna, after taking a year off after graduation, looks to get back to his winning ways. Karjanis coming from a solid Indain squad and local product Slaugh looks to make a name for himself here in his hometown.
141- 2x AZ State Champion FR Markos Serna, younger brother of Richard, comes highly decorated out of Holbrook, AZ as well. Looking to also compete at this weight is SO Kyle Rhodes a 2x Idaho state placer. Slaugh may also see time here as well.
149- National Qualifier Justin Schumacher returns from his 2-2 finish at last years national tournament is hungry for a much better performance this year but may make the move to 157 as he has gained a lot of size this off season. Highly recruited, State Champion FR Matt Gallen from Morgan UT and State Runner - Up FR Jordan Schroeder from Murray UT look to make this weight very interesting.
157- Green River WY native FR Scott Verner, a WY State Champion in 2010, 2x WY State Placer FR Matt Spoon, and CO standout SO Stephen Aaron will battle at this weight.
165- FR Dylan Bushby a NJ Disrict Champion from Haddon Heights, brings tremendous athleticism as well as hard working FR Shawn Seppala a 2x Wy State Placer lead the way at 165. Matt Spoon may also see some time here as well.
174- Clayton Roth a frshman from Ft. Collins CO brings a workman like quality to this weight. Seppala may see time here.
184- Cherry Creek Colorado FR Trey Kirk will be a huge athlete at this weight. The 2x CO state placer will make the move from 215 lbs. from a year ago.
197- FR Simas Norkus comes all the way from Siaulai, Lithuania and brings a wealth of experience from the International freestyle circuit and looks to translate that to success on the collegiate level.
HWT- Highly athletic FR Tutuila Olomaalii from Delta UT Took third at lat years State Tournament after his first year of competion. Rock Springs natives FR Zac Haney a WY State Placer and Fr Island Richards a 2x WY State Placer bring much needed depth to this weight.
