POLICY 5310C:
FEDERAL STUDENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The College has signed terms of agreement with the U.S. Department of Education to participate in the Title IV programs for post-secondary students. These programs provide federal financial aid to qualified students.

The College is approved by the U.S. Department of Education to administer Federal financial aid under an agreement referred to as an Institutional Participation Agreement which provides Institutional Eligibility and Certification for Title IV Student Financial Aid Programs. For Federal aid purposes, the College is approved as a public institution of higher education providing semester credit hours applying toward a specific list of one-year non-degree (Certificate) programs and the Associates Degree. The College is further approved for Federal aid purposes for both correspondence and telecommunications courses, and is also approved to administer Federal financial aid for students enrolled at a specific list of additional (Outreach) locations.

The College may award Federal financial aid to its students through the completion of the Associates Degree or the completion of a maximum of 96 credit hours, including transfer credit hours from other colleges, whichever comes first.

PROCEDURE 5310C:
FEDERAL STUDENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The College participates in federal student financial aid programs, commonly referred to as Title IV aid, to provide aid to qualified students. The Director of Financial Aid administers these programs within the regulations established by the U.S. Department of Education. The general procedures are described below.

Availability
Available funds vary annually according to federal appropriations.

Criteria
All federal aid recipients must have graduated from high school or received a General Educational Development (G.E.D.) Certificate. The student must be admitted to the College and must pursue a certificate or a degree in a training or educational program at least 1 year and 24 credits in length. Non-degree students are not eligible. To apply, students must fill out an approved needs analysis and establish financial need.

The aid office determines the amount of aid that it will award to the student based upon the estimated family contribution and the established cost of attendance. All awarded aid plus the estimated family contribution may not exceed the cost of attendance. Each year, the Financial Aid Director establishes costs of attendance for students. The estimated family contribution is determined by the Federal needs analysis.

Aid is generally limited to a maximum of 96 credit hours including transfer credits from other colleges. Students who have completed an Associates Degree are generally not eligible.

Once aid is accepted, the recipient must complete the established number of credit hours and maintain a minimum G.P.A. of 2.00. The student must show both qualitative and quantitative progress toward a stated educational goal to maintain eligibility. Transfer students must exhibit the same academic success and progress as current WWCC recipients.
