ATHLETIC GRANTS
The College offers grants to selected student-athletes who participate in
competitive athletic programs. These grants are based on the student's
demonstrated success in an interscholastic sport and potential or demonstrated
success in an intercollegiate sport. Grants provide for one or more of the
following educational costs: full-time in-state tuition, room (minimum cost of a
suite unit based upon maximum occupancy), board, and/or a fixed textbook stipend
of up to $200 per semester.
Grants Available
The College currently offers grants for male and female athletes in basketball,
female athletes in volleyball and for male athletes in wrestling. The value of
each grant is agreed upon individually by the coach and the student and approved
by the Athletic Director.
The budget allocation and the value of each grant will determine the number of grants awarded in each academic year.
Awarding the Grants
The Coach for each sport, with the concurrence of the Athletic Director, may
make a conditional offer of an award, contingent upon the recipient (1) meeting
all admissions and financial aid eligibility requirements, including graduation
from high school, and (2) agreeing to the terms of the athletic contracts. All
offers of an award will be contingent upon adequate funds remaining within the
budget allocation for that sport.
The student-athlete must meet National Junior College Athletic Association
eligibility requirements and must agree to the terms of the contracts presented
by the Athletic Department. These contracts cover one academic year only.
The contracts must be returned by the designated date and must be signed by:
- The student-athlete,
- The parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of the student, if the student is under 18 years of age,
- The WWCC Athletic Director,
- The Director of Financial Aid,
- The Coach, and
- The Vice President for Student Success Services
If a contract is amended, all signatories must sign the updated contract.
If a student-athlete withdraws from or is dismissed from the College or the team, the grant is canceled. Similarly, if the student-athlete is evicted from College housing, the housing portion of the grant is canceled.
Applicants must complete the general application process for institutional and Federal financial aid.
Renewing the Grants
These grants may be renewed if the student:
- Actively participates in the sport and meets other contract requirements
- Meets the eligibility requirements of the N.J.C.A.A.
- Completes at least 12 credit hours per semester with a minimum G.P.A. of 2.00, and
