POLICY 5440B:
CHARTERING STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
Student organizations must have a charter from Associated Student government (ASG) and a voluntary faculty member.
The Associated Student Government, with the approval of the Board of Trustees, establishes the requirements for receiving a charter. Chartered organizations must comply with the regulations governing all student groups. At a minimum, to receive a charter, an organization must submit its constitution, its bylaws, the names of its officers and sponsors, and a budget when applying for financial assistance from ASG or the College.
A charter authorizes an organization to use college facilities when sponsoring activities for its members or for the benefit of the entire student body. Furthermore, it permits the organization to raise funds for the benefit of the entire student body.
Student organizations with an off-campus sponsor must also have a faculty sponsor. Funds allocated to these organizations must directly benefit all student and the College. If an off-campus sponsor provides financial support directly, the organization must report the amount of support so that institutional funds are equitably distributed. The College cannot give direct institutional grants to such organizations, but it can allocate funds to the organization for the benefit of all students or for performed services.
